Aerial Services’ USDA-FSA-APFO NRI/SLI Contract Soars To 37,000+ Sites

Aerial Services is proud to announce the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) – Farm Service Agency (FSA) – Aerial Photography Field Office (AFPO) has again selected the company as a prime contractor for the 2013 editions of the NRCS National Resource Inventory (NRI) and Stewardship Lands Imagery (SLI) projects. This year, Aerial Services was awarded 37,993 sites, a new record high for an Aerial Services contract. The Aerial Services award valued in excess of $3.7 million, displaying the USDA-FSA-APFO’s trust in Aerial Services successive years of quality work and ability to match or exceed that performance this coming year.

The USDA-FSA-APFO NRI/SLI program entails capturing color positive spot shots throughout the 48 continental states, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Image accuracy, acquisition, and delivery speed are key values taken into consideration by the USDA-FSA-APFO. Year to year, Aerial Services has consistently ranked #1 or #2 in performance among multiple contractors, leading to contract awards since the program inception in 2000.

We have grown our ability to produce imagery for more sites year after year and are pleased we will acquire a new record this year.” -Kirk Fisher, Aerial Services, Vice President of Operations[/pullquote]

Logistics are Key

Aerial Services has developed impressive workflows, alongside their team of acquisition partners, to efficiently acquire, process, and deliver the images on a tight timeline. Photo acquisition occurs within a designated window set by the client for each state. Each image is inspected, labelled, scanned, and then delivered to the USDA-FSA-APFO within 15 days of acquisition. To achieve this, Aerial Services’ team consists of up to eleven flight crews. Weather conditions are monitored and crews are mobilized to exploit good weather wherever it occurs. Each night crews update the project database using a customized web application, each exposure’s precise location is verified, and the database notes the result. If in error, the location is marked for re-flight. This information is then relayed back to the flight crews in time for their next morning flights. This constant communication is key to the success of this project. Deliverables for the combined programs include color positive film and color scans.

We have been able to trust Aerial Services’ consistent performance for years and highly recommend them to anyone seeking the highest quality aerial imagery acquisition services.” -W.
