Working Together to Save Lives: Emergency Responders & GIS – 2/5/14
Jason Dolf, Flight Operations Coordinator (Aerial Services, Inc.) & Fire Chief (Raymond Fire Rescue)
In February, Aerial Services’ Winter Webinar Series will kick-off discussing “Working Together to Save Lives: Emergency Responders & GIS”. One of the most critical assets an emergency responder can have during an emergency are maps. Responders (professionals and volunteers) will often come to assist and are not familiar with the area. They need maps to orient to the current area and be more effective with the task at hand. The key to getting the information into the right hands at the right time is having a working relationship between emergency responders and mappers. Join us to learn more about how mapping is used and can be implemented to serve those in our communities during an emergency.

Privacy Issues Raise Concerns for Remote Sensing – 3/19/14
Kevin Pomfret, Executive Director (Centre for Spatial Law and Policy) with Mike Tully, President & CEO (Aerial Services, Inc.)
As unmanned aerial systems (UAS) become more prevalent in the skies, the United States is engaged in spirited conversations about their impact on the constitutional guarantees of privacy and free speech. Without an understanding of privacy, the voice of the geospatial community is likely to be overlooked or dismissed. Without an input into such an important debate, there is a substantial risk the geospatial community will wake up one day and find they can’t do the things they want to do. Worse yet, it may find it is no longer able to do what they currently can do with manned aircraft. Join us to learn more regarding the factions, issues, and misunderstandings currently in play for remote sensing as we enter a new era of automated data acquisition. Video & Slides Available
