LiDAR, Accuracy, & UAV: Summer Webinar Series Dates & Topics [Videos & Slides Now Available]
June 11, 2012 Mike Tully

Aerial Services, Inc. (ASI), the aerial remote-sensing and mapping firm based in Cedar Falls, Iowa, has announced their summer 2012 webinar series.  These educationally driven, one-hour events will discuss a number of geospatial topics and are free to pre-registered attendees. Each is hosted by Aerial Services and/or partner geospatial professionals who are experts regarding the topics being discussed. Join us this summer and learn something new!

The series will begin in June with Aerial Services popular “LiDAR 101” presentation. This primer on Light Imaging Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) will discuss how it has become a common tool used in mapping and is being dispatched to complete more and more projects. The talk will help you understand what this technology is, how it works, and what it can be used for. Through this brief but informative presentation, we’ll get you up-to-date on LiDAR technology, discuss “waveform technology”, and its ability to offer acquisition of digital elevation data for large-scale mapping projects. We’ll also discuss how LiDAR can work alongside traditional aerial photography and photogrammetric techniques – making it even more powerful. Get Presentation Video & Slides

Ortho & LiDAR Accuracy – 7/25/12 (Past Event)

For the July presentation Aerial Services’ will partner with Spatial Information Solutions (makers of Accuracy Analyst and Topo Analyst) to discuss “Ortho & LiDAR Accuracy.” One of the major problems of using Ortho & LiDAR data today is the abundant availability of inexpensive data and information at multiple scales, resolutions, and time periods. Sources of errors tend to accumulate in these datasets. In order to increase accuracy of the final deliverable, it is imperative to know the source and amount of error associated with the final outcomes. This session will describe sources and causes of error when using multi-scale geospatial data and how to handle them professionally. It will also introduce methods used to reduce error and understand the relationship between scale and error. Get Presentation Video & Slides

UAV & Geospatial – 8/22/12 (Past Event)

The final summer webinar, held in August, will overview the upcoming use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in geospatial applications. “UAV & Geospatial” will inform the attendee as to the past, present, and future usage of UAV technology to acquire, map, and analyze geodata. Current FAA regulations limit the use of UAV for commercial activity, but this will be changing as the government slowly integrates these new types of aircraft into American airspace. As this happens, professionals and novices will increasingly use UAVs to acquire more regular geodata with varying degrees of quality. Get prepared for this new class of data by staying up on the trends and technologies via this informative session. Get Presentation Video & Slides
