What is LiDAR?

Airborne LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is an aerial mapping technology which captures three-dimensional data about the Earth surface. Our sophisticated fleet of sensors omit pulses of light which are directed towards the ground. The time it takes for the pulse to encounter an object allows for an exact measurement of distance.  This data, along with the exact GPS coordinates of the airplane are used to form a LiDAR point cloud.
