Fun,
informative, and cool maps. What you can’t see on Google Maps, where
people are looking on Microsoft Virtual Earth, and a music video made
with LiDAR.

  • Blurred Out: 51 Things You Aren’t Allowed to See on Google Maps
    – You can look up landmarks like the Pyramids of Egypt or the Great
Wall of China, as well as more personal places, like your ex’s house.
But for all of the places that Google Maps allows you to see, there are
plenty of places that are off-limits.
  • Hotmap from Microsoft Research
    – Hotmap shows where people have looked at when using Virtual Earth,
the engine that powers Live Search Maps: the darker a point, the more
    times it has been downloaded.
  • LiDAR Music Video
    – The music video for Radiohead’s song “House Of Cards” was generated
without cameras, but with LiDAR scanners normally used to capture
    geospatial data.
